The potential of the Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography lies in the huge resources of created and stored knowledge, which are continuously being digitised, and as such it is becoming accessible to a large number of users via the Institute's web pages. The development of the Institute's repository of digitised archival editions was initiated in 2009, when the Portal of Knowledge was made available online. It offers free access to more than 60,000 articles from seven digitised encyclopaedias and lexicons.

Online and freely available editions currently are Croatian Encyclopaedia and Proleksis Encyclopaedia – the two general encyclopaedias that emphasise contents regarding Croatian national heritage, which together comprise approximately 130,000 articles. They are continuously updated and expanded.

Croatia: land and people is an encyclopaedic monograph published in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, while the digital edition of the Lexicon of Marin Držić is published in collaboration with the House of Marin Držić in Dubrovnik.

The online edition of the Croatian Encyclopedia of Technology – Portal of Croatian Technological Heritage – is a project involving the continued gathering and systematisation of knowledge about historical and present-day technological achievements in Croatia.

The structural network of the publication Croatian Exonyms – the first systematically processed and publicly accessible list of adapted geographical names of foreign geographical features – is comparable to a dictionary. It consists of a body of 3,250 recommended names together with short attributes that describe them.

Apart from the encyclopaedic content, the web pages of the Institute offer access to the digitised Author Catalogue of the Catalogue of Retrospective Bibliography of the Articles which in total is comprised of 10 million leaflets containing lists of articles from periodicals published in the South-Slavic area in the period from the end of the 18th century until the year 1945.

Open access to the Institute's peer-reviewed scientific journal Studia lexicographica, which publishes papers in the field of lexicography and encyclopaedistics, as well as in other scientific disciplines within social sciences and humanities, is also available.

By enabling the open access to the online encyclopaedic and scientific content, the Institute supports the open science initiative and contributes to the dissemination of public knowledge in Croatia.
