The Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography co-organises the 33rd International Slavonic Studies Colloquium

The Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography co-organised this year’s 33^rd International Slavonic Studies Colloquium, which was hosted and principally organised by the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. Owing to the war circumstances, many of the several dozen participants presented their research via Zoom on 21 and 22 May 2026.

The colloquium comprised plenary sessions alongside panels devoted to linguistics, literary studies, history, and cultural history as well as a round-table discussion marking the centenary of the birth of Višnja Stahuljak, described as ‘one of the greatest ladies of Croatian children’s literature’ (Stjepan Hranjec). The Institute of Lexicography was represented by its director, Filip Hameršak, with the presentation Croatian Soldiers in World War I on the territory of Ukraine: from the trenches to cultural memory, as well as lexicographers Tea Rogić Musa (Julije Benešić and Miroslav Krleža in Lviv in May 1932: occasion, context, individuals), Pavle Bonča (The reception of Yugoslav/Croatian lexicography in Ukraine: impressions from the 1979 exhibition in Kyiv), and Pia Šmalcelj Novaković (In light of new ancient DNA analysis linking Ukraine and the early medieval population of present-day Croatia: a new perspective on the famous Čađavica find). In his opening address, Director Hameršak expressed support for Ukraine’s struggle for freedom, noting that he shared the perspective of a nation that still vividly remembers its own struggles, suffering, sacrifices, and pride. Through Professor Alla Tatarenko, a Ukrainian specialist in Croatian literature, the Institute of Lexicography has maintained cooperation with Lviv in various forms for more than two decades.
