On 25–26 September, an international symposium on biography and its role and future in the digital world, ‘There’s History in All Men’s Lives’, was held in the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU) in Ljubljana.

The Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography was represented by Dr Filip Hameršak, Director of the Institute, and Dr Nataša Jermen, Assistant Director for Research and Inter-Institutional Cooperation.

This two-day symposium was organised on the tenth anniversary of the New Slovenian Biographical Dictionary (2013–23) and as the final event of the project In/Tangible European Heritage – Visual Analysis, Curation and Communication (InTaVia); the Institute is one of the project’s associated partners. It brought together experts from different fields with the aim of elucidating biography as a historical genre and examining various aspects of cultural heritage, digital humanities, and visualisation.

In his presentation, ‘Biographical Research and Presentation in the Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography: Achievements and Challenges’, Dr Hameršak spoke about the history of biographical efforts in Croatia and presented the Institute as a key place for biographical research, particularly referring to the Croatian Biographical Dictionary, one of the Institute’s fundamental editions.
